The Motorola Pro
Plus is a Touch and Type Smart-Phone sporting QWERTY keypad below the
touchscreen. It is running the Android
Gingerbread OS and is powered by a powerful 1GHz processor. The display screen
is 3.1-inch capacitive multi-touch scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass. It
is the sequel of the recently launched Motorola Fire mobile with larger
touchscreen and more powerful processor. It sports high speed connectivity
options like 3G, Wi-Fi, & 3G Mobile HotSpot to share 3G connection among
multiple (up to 5) wi-fi enabled devices. It has come with the 1 GHz
single-core CPU and 512 MB of RAM.
The Gingerbread operating system is not the
newest kid on the block, and the five-megapixel snapper is okay but doesn’t
work well in low light. Under the hood is a single-core chip that can cope with
the latest games but may be out of date sooner rather than later. The Pro Plus
has solid, curvy good looks, a decent heft in the hand and reminds us of a
BlackBerry, with that physical keyboard. Heavy users will get more than 24
hours out of a full charge thanks to a clever battery saver feature.
The Pro
Plus is a winner, with its neat combination of usable keyboard and
responsive display. If you like a physical keyboard, you’ll be typing in texts
and emails speedily, while the display lets you find your way around the web
and make the most of the many thousands of Android apps.
The Display in the Pro+ is a 3.1″ TFT LCD
featuring a pretty decent 480×640 resolution with internal
storage capacity is advertised as 4GB but beware as only around 1.3GB is
user accessible and no external memory card is included in the box.
Overall, the well designed keyboard
combines with a responsive screen to offer a user friendly, enjoyable
experience. The small display is not the perfect option for surfing the net or
watching feature-length movies, and the Gingerbread OS is starting to look a
bit jaded, but nevertheless if you’re looking for a viable alternative to a
BlackBerry, the Motorola Pro Plus is it.
