HTC has unveiled the Desire 816, the company’s latest
phablet. It has dual-front-facing BoomSound speakers and comes in single SIM
and dual SIM variants. It uses a nano SIM. Visit here for the HTC Desire 816 specifications.
Display and configuration
The HTC Desire 816
sports a large 5.5-inch HD display running Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It has been
powered by a Quad-core Snapdragon processor, complemented by 1.5GB of RAM. The
device flaunts a set of dual speakers on the front, and misses the capacitive
buttons below the display we see on most of the Android devices. Rather, it
features on-screen virtual buttons just like Nexus phones.
Camera and storage
The HTC Desire 816 features a 13MP rear
shooter with LED flash and a host of features like Auto Focus, Face detection,
Geo tagging, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR), Simultaneous HD video and image
recording, Touch to focus etc. It also carries in a 5MP front facing camera for
HD-quality video calling. The Desire 8 comes with a micro SD card slot to allow
users to expand storage up to 64GB in case the inbuilt storage doesn't seem
sufficient.
Connectivity and battery
The Desire 816 comes with a range of
connectivity features including 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, USB port etc. It
comes with a li-ion battery to power the show. Encased in a plastic body, the
Desire 8 will be offered in red, white, yellow, orange and cyan colours.
Verdict
Budget phablets are a rage these days
and HTC seems to have missed the bandwagon. The HTC Desire 8 is a genuine
effort to make a comeback. Carrying an extra-large display, a set of powerful
hardware and great camera, the budget device doesn't look like a compromise for
the sake of costing.
